Coal ChamberA History and Bio Throughout their career, Coal Chamber has been a turbulent band. Starting in 1994 when they formed and recorded their first demo, Coal Chamber became known in all of the less-ritzy parts of L.A. (street corners, for example). Eventually, though, their fame spread to more well-known clubs, where they became quite popular. Within months, they became rivals for the more experienced bands performing at the same clubs. By the fall of 1995, certain people high up in the record industry brought Coal Chamber's talents to the good folks at Roadrunner Records. Roadrunner loved them and immediately offered them a deal. Then, almost overnight, Coal Chamber was makin' it easy. This only lasted a little while, and then everything stopped suddenly. Dez met a girl and ultimately decided to leave the band to be with her. For almost a year, he was gone. Coal Chamber let other singers try out, but none of them worked as well as Dez. So Meegs came around to Dez's house and asked him to come back. He did, and with an attitude. He bacame more fully commited to the band than ever. This new passion brought a new level of fire to their music (listen to their opening track "Loco" to see what I mean). Onstage they became more energetic in their performing than ever, and their fans loved them more than ever. At Christmas of 1995, Coal Chamber finally negotiated the deal with Roadrunner. Their album, as they were recording, was influenced by their experiences. For example, as they started recording, Dez's wife left him. This influenced a lot the song "Unspoiled." Though the recording of the record was very challenging for all of them, Coal Chamber benefitted a lot from the experience. They always try to keep going, always trying new things in their music and in their life. This is what has fueled Coal Chamber for their five years. |
